EWB at UC Irvine Projects
We have recently been approved for our first international project in Endana, Kenya,
a rural village about 100 miles north of the capital city of Nairobi. The goal of this project is to provide adequate water and sanitation for the school, which has recently seen a rapid increase in student enrollment. Adequate water and sanitation are the first steps in developing a healthy and sustainable environment for the school and the surrounding community. Together with EWB-OC, who is currently building a bridge in the same community, we are planning our assessment trip with tentative travel dates for June 2010.
In addition to the technical aspects of our engineering project, EWB at UCI is dedicated to understanding the impact that our project will have on the health of the community as a whole, not just the individuals who will directly benefit. As such, the Community Development Team was created and has been working to develop a comprehensive community health assessment to be used on our trip abroad. This assessment will enable us to have a better understanding of the health issues within the community, so that we can evaluate the impact of our project and assess the need for future projects.
Both the Community Development Team and the Kenya Project Team are open to students of all disciplines.
