Getting involved in EWB at UCI is a great opportunity for students of all discipline to learn new skills and meet new people. General meetings are held twice per quarter and team meetings are held weekly. Feel free to drop in on any meeting!
Designing Sustainable Solutions
For those interested in the more technical aspects of EWB at UCIrvine, both the Engineering and the Labdoo Teams have various opportunities for students of all backgrounds. The Engineering Team focuses on designs to be used on our international projects, ranging from water treatment to structural and mechanical designs. We are excited to have recently been allocated space on campus to build, test, and learn from our designs prior to implementation abroad.
Those interested in computer science will find exciting opportunities in the Labdoo Project, which focuses on providing used laptops to those in the world can best benefit from the educational opportunities laptops can offer.
Community Development and Public Health
The Community Development Team (CDT) is open to all students interested in issues surrounding community development. This team is responsible for dealing with the health, cultural, urban planning, and non-engineering related aspects of our international project. The CDT’s main goal is to assess the community’s health and general needs while working with the engineering team to help determine fundamental problems affecting those in need and the appropriate solutions to address those problems.
Creating Business Solutions
Each EWB project is fully funded by the chapter and therefore needs adequate fundraising and marketing. The Business Team is charged with all aspects of fundraising, events, and marketing for the chapter. This is an extremely important factor in the success of our projects and requires versatile students looking to create business solutions to create a financially capable and professional chapter.
